Technology
The mission of the Technology Department is to provide students and staff with a reliable infrastructure of technology resources to support and advance instruction and learning.
Technology has become a powerful and essential tool in the educational process for both students and staff at Goshen Local Schools.
For specific question regarding the district's use of technology, contact Director of Technology Mark Slagle.
Parent technology information: Student safety and security
Student safety is our number one priority at Goshen Local Schools.
This commitment extends to providing the safest possible environment for our students as they use district-provided technology for learning.
The detailed information in the menus below explains the technology available to our students, the platforms and policies in place to ensure student safety online, and the options available to parents who might wish to limit a child's access to websites and/or online materials.
Using ProgressBook to monitor student grades
ProgressBook allows parents to track student grades, attendance, missing assignments, and more.
Our data shows that parent involvement is one of the biggest factors in determining success at school and in life.
Log in to your ProgressBook account or refer to one of the guides on setting up an account and accessing your student's grades online.Student safety is our number one priority at Goshen Local Schools.
This commitment extends to providing the safest possible environment for our students when they use district-provided technology for learning.
One of the most important tools at our disposal is the ability to monitor and control how students are using their computers and which websites they are able to access.
For example, during the school day teachers use a tool called GoGuardian to watch student screens, ensure they are on task, and, when necessary, even lock the computers down to only the resources needed to complete academic objectives.
We also use filtering and monitoring software called Securly to make sure that students are safe online. Securly is always active, even when students are at home. It does its best to ensure that students do not access inappropriate content, and alerts district personnel if a student’s internet activity indicates that they may be engaging in behaviors harmful to themselves or others.
These tools are only ever used to protect our students and meet our obligation to provide a safe, effective learning environment.
On Oct. 24, 2024 a new law went into effect requiring Ohio public schools to notify parents and guardians that we monitor student computer and internet activity as described above.
Further, are required to notify you within 72 hours if we access your student’s computer or computer activity history.
To be clear, this law does not change how GLSD uses technology monitoring tools to ensure student safety. It simply creates an opportunity for us to be more transparent with our students and families.
What parents can expect from Goshen Local Schools
Teachers and staff will continue to use technology monitoring tools to create the best possible academic environment for students and families.
We will communicate with a legal guardian within 72 hours if a staff member accesses a student’s device for any of the following reasons:
Pursuant to a warrant
If a device is lost or stolen
If necessary to respond to a threat to life or safety
Other reasons not related to instruction, technology support, or exam proctoring
