Ohio's annual sales tax holiday is now 10 days long, just in time for back-to-school shopping. A provision in Ohio's budget added more tax-free days to this year’s holiday, which now runs Tuesday, July 30 to Thursday, Aug. 8. According to the Ohio Department of Taxation, the sales tax waiver will cover all tangible personal property that is $500 or less, with some exceptions. NEW FOR 24-25: ALL enrolled Goshen students are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge. Students will be able to participate in this meal program without having to pay a fee or submitting an application. Goshen Local School District will be able to do this through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program. The CEP program allows schools and districts with high poverty rates to provide free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students. Two Goshen High School students recently won a $2,000 cash prize after pitching their idea for a workout aid during an entrepreneurial competition in Dayton. Corbin Hinkle and Max Lowry won the Project Pitch Competition for their Lift Rite idea, a solution for avoiding tweaks, sprains, pulls, tears, and breaks while working out. The contest was part of the SCORE Dayton’s first annual Miami Valley High School Pitch Competition held at Beavercreek High School.

The Marr/Cook Elementary preschool program recently earned the highest rating offered by the state of Ohio. M/C Preschool earned five stars in Ohio’s Step Up to Quality rating system. This program was designed to recognize and promote early learning and development programs that meet quality standards over and above health and safety licensing requirements. Criteria for five-star ratings include a robust curriculum, advanced degrees for teachers and program administrators, a family engagement plan and other requirements.

The Goshen community will soon see an increase in available health care services, thanks to a multi-million dollar grant from the state of Ohio. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine visited Clermont County Monday to announce a $3.4 million grant for HealthSource of Ohio in Goshen, and a similar grant in Brown County. HealthSource of Ohio CEO Kim Patton and Goshen Superintendent Brian Bailey joined the Governor as he made the announcement.  Read more on our website.

The Ohio School Boards Association recognized the Goshen Local Schools Board of Education as a Gold Level Effective School Board on Thursday, March 7. The award, which recognizes the outstanding work of the board, was presented at the Southwest Region OSBA Spring Conference in Xenia. This is the 14th consecutive year that a Goshen Board has received the Gold Award.

Soon-to-be freshmen and their families are invited to an informational meeting about the GHS class scheduling process on Thursday, Feb. 15 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the GHS gym. A brief overview of the high school class scheduling process will be followed by a scheduling fair of classes, clubs and athletics.

​Congrats to three Goshen Middle School artists who recently won cash awards for their artwork entered in the annual Goshen Lions Club art contest. Eighth grader Cassidy Ashcraft (far right in photo) took the top prize in the local competition of the Lions International Peace Poster contest. Her entry will now move on to state level competition. GMS seventh grader Lillian Larkin took second place and eighth grader Danielle Childs took third place. These posters were among thousands of entries submitted worldwide in the 35th annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.
